Carcinine: benefits, dosage, contraindications

Updated on

Carcinine, a metabolite of L-carnosine, is a natural compound with powerful antioxidant and anti-glycation properties. It stands out for its ability to resist enzymatic degradation, offering greater bioavailability. Numerous studies highlight its promising role in managing metabolic imbalances, particularly in patients with type 2 diabetes.

In a 4-month clinical study, 42 participants were divided into two groups: an active group taking an oral formulation of carcinine and a placebo group. Participants in the active group took one capsule of 300 mg of carcinine every other day for 3 months. The results showed a significant improvement in skin quality, including a reduction in fine lines, firmer skin, and a brighter complexion. These benefits were observed through an objective analysis of skin parameters using the Visioscan system, confirming the effectiveness of carcinine in combating skin aging.

Type 2 diabetes
✪✪✪✪✪

A clinical study conducted on 100 overweight or obese patients with glycemic imbalances demonstrated the effectiveness of carcinine in type 2 diabetes. The results revealed a significant decrease in blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and the HOMA-IR index after 8 weeks of treatment. These positive effects were accompanied by a reduction in abdominal circumference and total cholesterol levels, without notable side effects.

Properties

Hypoglycemic

Carcinine works by reducing advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), molecules resulting from the reaction between glucose and proteins or lipids. These AGEs are known to worsen vascular complications associated with diabetes. According to a recent clinical study, taking 60 mg/day of carcinine over an 8-week period showed a significant decrease in AGEs measured by an AGE reader, contributing to a reduction in cardiovascular risks and diabetes complications.

Anti-aging

Carcinine acts as a potent inhibitor of advanced glycation, a key process in skin aging. It blocks the formation of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), which lead to stiffening of proteins such as collagen and loss of skin elasticity. Through its ability to neutralize free radicals and interrupt oxidative chain reactions, carcinine protects dermal structures.

Safety dosage

Adult: 300 mg

For anti-aging purposes or in the prevention of glycation-related complications, a dose of 300 mg/day has shown significant results.
