In the early 2000s, Laurent Jacob pursued a career as a web entrepreneur: he notably launched the site Boursier.com in the 1990s.

Faced with digestive issues that weigh on his daily life, he meets a doctor during a stay in the south of France who points him toward dietary supplements. Initially skeptical, he takes a close interest in this field.

In a previous interview with Darwin Nutrition, he describes this discovery as the founding act of his project: making dietary supplements known to as many people as possible. On October 12, 2013, Nutrimea was born.

Nature as the starting point

The brand sums up its mission this way: to promote natural health. In practical terms, it claims a selection of ingredients that are mostly naturally sourced and GMO-free, a focus on the traceability of raw materials and their bioavailability, meaning the body’s ability to absorb and use a nutrient.

For several active ingredients, Nutrimea uses branded ingredients, whose origin and manufacturing process are identified: Peptan® collagen, KSM-66® ashwagandha, Creapure® creatine, or Omegavie® krill oil.

A traceability specialist, Matthias Kazmierczak, supports the teams on this aspect.

An expert committee behind the formulas

This is undoubtedly the brand’s most structuring element. Every product development goes through a scientific division led by Gilles Badot, former Director of Scientific Information and Clinical Research at Laboratoires Genévrier.

Around him are Pr. Henri Drugeon, former professor of medicine at the University of Nantes and specialist in bacteriology; Dr. Dominique Kohler-Limet, a general practitioner with a university diploma in practical nutrition; Charlotte Martin, a biology engineer, oversees R&D and quality, while Lenaïg Besnard handles regulatory monitoring, including label and claim validation.

Innovation and local roots

The formulas are designed in France and produced in certified ISO 22000 partner laboratories, an international standard dedicated to food safety. The brand says it regularly reformulates its products and continues to expand its range: NAD+, lactoferrin, and effervescent electrolytes are among the recent launches.

Localism is Nutrimea’s other pillar, as it prioritizes short supply chains by working with farmers, SMEs, and committed stakeholders. Another sign of this local presence: some products are reimbursed by partner supplemental health insurers (Nostrum Care, Asetys).

A French brand shining abroad

More than ten years after its creation, Nutrimea claims more than 3 million customers, a hundred products, and 40 employees. The brand is now present in more than 400 pharmacies, in 14 countries, and, according to its figures, half of its business is now carried out internationally.

The expansion took place in stages: Italy and Spain first, then Germany and the Netherlands. Nutrimea thus illustrates a broader trend in the sector: French brands that rely on a network of French experts and manufacturers to establish themselves in European markets.
