My summary review

On paper, Aroma-Zone really checks all the boxes: a huge but easy-to-navigate catalog, well-crafted product pages, transparency about sourcing, clear commitments, affordable prices. No matter how much I looked into it, I couldn’t really find any major weaknesses.

As for the shopping experience, everything went smoothly: smooth ordering, delivery in four days, responsive customer service by phone and email. The only small downside (and that is really just to find something) is a return policy that I could not find on the website.

Aroma-Zone, the brand

Aroma-Zone is the brand that anyone interested in DIY cosmetics, aromatherapy, and essential oils needs to know. A few years ago it was even my go-to store for making my own cosmetics at home. I went through my “Aroma-Zone phase,” and it was largely thanks to them that I discovered this world.

The story begins in 1999, when Pierre Vausselin, a chemist passionate about plants, started a website dedicated to essential oils with his daughters Anne and Valérie.

Today, the brand is led by Sabrina Herlory-Rouget, its CEO, employs around 1,000 people, and offers more than 1,600 product references, distributed across 34 stores in France, one in Belgium, and one in the United Kingdom.

Over the years, Aroma-Zone has moved away from its original do-it-yourself positioning to develop ready-made formulas (face, hair, body, home), still focusing on 100% natural ingredients and the “slow cosmetics” trend

The brand has expanded its catalog into new categories: nutrition with dietary supplements and cooking with superfoods and herbal teas. It is no longer just a store for natural active ingredients, but also appeals to those who want finished products while knowing exactly what they contain.

Methodology

For this investigation, I followed the same protocol as for my previous brand analyses for Darwin Nutrition: ordering products (I chose a vegan collagen booster and their “star” hyaluronic acid serum), contacting customer service, and conducting an in-depth analysis of the catalog and the information available before purchase.

To analyze the Aroma-zone website in a complete and structured way, I based myself on 4 criteria to evaluate:

  • The catalog
  • Safety and transparency
  • Popularity
  • Customer experience

1. The catalog ★★★★ 5/5

Aroma-Zone’s catalog is enormous. It includes the brand’s history section, raw materials and active ingredients for homemade products (essential oils, vegetable oils, waxes, extracts, etc.), as well as ready-made formulas and a nutrition section.

DIY, which made the brand’s reputation at its beginnings, now represents only a small part of the current offering.

Despite their large catalog, navigation remains smooth, with a well-designed menu and filters. What I really like is the huge number of reviews available on the product pages: their concentrated hyaluronic acid serum, for example, has more than 32,800 reviews.

It’s enormous and, above all, these are genuine reviews, both positive and negative, which really help people make a decision.

The product sheets themselves are very well constructed: rich, detailed, educational, with illustrations and photos to support use. The composition is clearly indicated each time, and under many product sheets, you can even find associated DIY recipes.

The products are advertised as 100% natural and vegan, with labels such as Organic or Ecocert FR-BIO-01 appearing regularly.

As for origin, the finished cosmetics appear to be mostly made in France. For the active ingredients, it depends a lot on the product: France, Europe, or international. This is hardly surprising given the origin of some active ingredients, which simply cannot be sourced in France.

2. Safety and transparency ★★★★ 5/5

The available laboratory analyses focus on essential oils.

There is a complete chromatographic analysis as well as an organoleptic and physicochemical analysis. For the rest of the catalog and the active ingredients, I did not find any analyses. In itself, nothing alarming; it remains consistent with industry practices.

The brand more than makes up for it with recognized labels (Cosmébio, Cosmos) and very complete product sheets where the country of origin is most often indicated.

The brand communicates clearly about its commitments. Their formulation charter excludes microplastic ingredients, and they say they monitor all substances of environmental concern: heavy metals, solvents, phthalates, PFAS.

Regarding sourcing, Aroma-Zone claims supply as close as possible to the origin of the raw materials: argan oil directly from Morocco, cocoa oil from Colombia, fine lavender from the Vaucluse plateaus.

About half of the raw materials would come from Europe. A page “Zoom in on Our Producers” even presents some French partners, a real commitment to transparency, which I really appreciate. It is rare to see the faces of the people who grow the products we consume!

The brand also publishes a code of conduct and an impact report. I looked and did not find any weak point on this matter.

3. Popularity ★★★★ 5/5

The volume of reviews on the product pages already sets the tone, and the other figures confirm this popularity. On Trustpilot, Aroma-Zone has an average of 4.7/5 from more than 38,700 reviews.

On social media, they are also very popular: more than 797,000 followers on Instagram, with a very active account featuring products, recipes, and tips, and around 279,000 followers on TikTok.

The brand also hosts beauty and wellness webinars and runs a network of workshop stores, mainly in Paris and major French cities, but also in London and Brussels.

A well-established brand and visibly very popular with the French.

4. Customer Experience ★★★ 4/5

The shopping experience itself was smooth, with all delivery information easily accessible and no unpleasant surprises at checkout. Shipping is free on purchases of $1 or more, with a handy indicator on each product page showing the remaining amount needed to reach it.

Below that, shipping costs come to $1.90.

As for customer service, I contacted them by email to ask about when a product would be restocked and I received a reply the next day.

The order was then placed on a Monday afternoon and received on Friday, a decent timeframe without being exceptional. The packaging, however, is minimalist : a plain box, with no flyer or little extra inside, and the products wrapped in kraft paper. It didn’t surprise me; it matches their brand image: no frills.

I also tested customer service by phone, this time to ask the question that had been on my mind since the beginning of the investigation: their return policy, which I hadn’t been able to find on the website.

Customer service answered quickly, and the welcome was pleasant. Clear response: returns are possible within a 14-day withdrawal period, but shipping costs remain the customer’s responsibility.

A pleasant surprise along the way: Aroma-Zone offers a dedicated service for deaf and hard-of-hearing people, with an interpreter who responds directly in sign language. I had never seen that elsewhere, and I found the approach truly wonderful.

What is the value for money?

Aroma-Zone is clearly focusing on accessibility. The prices are very affordable compared with the market.

Their products are not for those looking for a sensory experience, ultra-refined packaging, or the most innovative formula on the market; that is not their audience. But for effective, accessible natural products, the huge volume of positive reviews speaks for itself.

Aroma-Zone is proof that it is possible to remain accessible without sacrificing seriousness. A benchmark that fully deserves its place in the natural products landscape in France.
