Novoma Overview

Novoma is a brand that offers a very diverse selection of dietary supplements. They are categorized on the site under several themes: cardiovascular health, immune support, digestion, skin, nails and hair, etc.

The supplements are formulated, manufactured and crafted in France (except the liquid liposomal vitamin C, which is produced in the United Kingdom). They are GMO-free. 

Most of the supplements are gluten-free, vegan and free of artificial coloring. They can therefore be suitable for people following restrictive diets.

Packaging is recyclable, you just need to make sure to remove the labels.

Range

Among the supplements are powders, capsules and a liquid supplement (liposomal vitamin C).

One of the first products offered by Novoma was the soluble vitamin C. This format allows it to be easily dissolved in a drink such as water or in fruit juice. 

In the ‘Tonus and Vitality’ range you will find, for example, organic spirulina and vitamin B12. In the ‘Skin, Nails, Hair’ range you will find organic spirulina as well as marine collagen and zinc bisglycinate (a particularly absorbable form of zinc).

Focus on Novoma’s online diagnostic

Novoma offers a diagnostic tool on its website. 

You need to answer a series of questions (age, sex, supplement consumption habits), then choose a main objective from the following:

For my part, I chose ‘I don’t have a specific objective, I want to be in good health’.

You are then asked a new series of questions about your lifestyle (consumption of fruits and vegetables, meats, fish, alcohol, exercise habits, etc.). Then indicate whether you follow a restrictive diet or have any allergies. My supplement recommendation is then presented to me:

If I need additional information, I am invited to contact Novoma’s customer service by phone.

It’s interesting but much less comprehensive than the personalized recommendations of brands such as Cuure or Epycure.

Our test

Products: ★★★★☆

I have tested several Novoma products: omega-3s, magnesium bisglycinate, and powdered vitamin C.

My package was well packed and bore a trim in the brand’s colors. The packaging is simple and colorful. The magnesium bottle is transparent, which does not offer optimal protection against light. 

The labels indicate the nutritional information, the ingredients, the dosage, and precautions for use.

A user guide can be downloaded online by filling out a form with my contact details. 

In terms of smell, the magnesium capsules have a neutral odor. The omega-3 capsules give off a slight fishy scent. I had no difficulty swallowing them. No fishy aftertaste after taking them!

Powdered vitamin C dissolved in water is bitter, I preferred to dissolve it in fruit juice.

I compared in the tables below the price of Novoma’s organic spirulina and liposomal vitamin C with the prices charged by several competitors.

The price per gram of protein of Novoma’s organic spirulina is lower than that of Nutrimea and Natura Force. The phycocyanin content (the active ingredient in spirulina) is higher.

The price per gram of liposomal vitamin C is lower at Novoma than at Dynveo and Nutrixeal.

Novoma’s product prices are tiered. Buying the same product twice gives a 5% discount, and 10% off from the third purchase onward. 

Delivery in Metropolitan France is available to pick-up points; it is free for orders of €60 or more, otherwise the fee is €3.90. Via Colissimo it is free for orders of €100 or more (fee of €5.50 otherwise). Delivery is available to several EU and non-EU countries including Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland. 

Novoma’s loyalty program lets you earn 5 points for every euro spent. €5 off is given when you reach 500 points.

There is a referral program that gives the referrer a €10 voucher when their referral places their first order. The referred customer also receives a €10 voucher valid on their first order. 

Novoma donates 5% of its turnover to the charity A Child by the Hand that provides assistance to children around the world.

Transparency: ★★★★☆

Novoma does not always clearly specify the origin of the ingredients in its dietary supplements. Acerola comes from Brazil, spirulina is cultivated in India. But the origins of the bamboo, horsetail and the Paracelse complex are not specified.

In the omega-3 formulation, Novoma could specify which fish are used to produce the oil.

Certificates of analysis can be viewed on the website, and product labels can also be downloaded.

In the traceability section of each product page, Novoma specifies the place of manufacture. For example, marine collagen is manufactured in Aucamville in Tarn-et-Garonne. The brand does not specify its suppliers of raw materials. 

Novoma was founded in 2012 by Lucas Pinos and Alexandre Garnier. Lucas trained at EDHEC and began his career as a financial analyst. Alexandre, a graduate of ESC Bordeaux, first worked in marketing and founded a company specializing in nootropics, Noomind. 

Expertise: ★★★★☆

On the website a supplements guide presenting the main active ingredients found in Novoma’s supplements. It includes the description and benefits of each ingredient. No scientific sources are referenced. 

Each product page presents the benefits of the supplement, the ingredients accompanied by scientific claims, and detailed usage instructions. Sources could be cited to strengthen the brand’s expertise.

On Novoma’s blog, there are only around twenty articles on wellness and nutrition. The content is written by the co-founders and by specialized writers.

According to our information, Novoma will increase its publishing frequency and call on naturopaths for writing.

The company collaborates with health experts (laboratories and naturopaths) for product formulation.

More than 150 partners (doctors, dietitians and naturopaths, dietitians) are part of Novoma’s product prescribing network.

I used the SimilarWeb tool to analyze traffic to Novoma’s website. In May 2021 the site reportedly attracted about 80,000 unique visitors, which is quite high for a supplement brand online.

On social media, Novoma has over 900 followers on Facebook and more than 2,200 followers on Instagram.

On Trustpilot, Novoma has nearly 2,000 reviews. The average rating is 4.7 / 5. Positive comments highlight fast delivery, product quality, and responsive customer service.

On the Amazon platform where the products are also sold, the products with the most reviews are powdered vitamin C (nearly 400 reviews), omega-3s, and magnesium bisglycinate (more than 150 reviews).

The most favorable reviews of the powdered vitamin C highlight how easy it is to take and how well it dissolves in a drink. They also note its good value for money.

I contacted customer service to ask them the following questions:

• Are there drinks to avoid or prefer for optimal absorption of powdered vitamin C?
• Can I take vitamin C in the evening?
• Where do the bamboo and horsetail in the Paracelse complex supplement come from?
• Regarding omega-3s, which fish are used in the oil? What is their origin?
• Is the packaging of the supplements recyclable?

Here are the answers I received:

I received clear and precise answers to my questions very quickly (in less than a day). 

Supplement manufacturing takes place in France in Aucamville, Angers and Brittany. The liquid liposomal vitamin C is manufactured in the United Kingdom. 

Organic products are certified Ecocert. They are also certified ISO 9001, quality management (Angers and London). ISO 22000, food safety management (Angers and Brittany). HACCP, food safety methods (Aucamville and London). Finally GMP, good manufacturing practices (Aucamville and London).
