Incorporate aloe vera juice into your diet

Why it’s a superfood

A succulent plant of the lily family, it is known for having played a major role among the remedies of ancient civilizations, notably Greek and Egyptian. Aloe vera is packed with good things for our health.

Widely used in cosmetics, it is ideal for treating burns, promotes wound healing, and soothes sunburn. It is largely for these reasons that aloe vera is used externally, as a cream or gel.

It contains nutrients and active compounds, including vitamin A and B1, proteins, minerals, and enzymes. All these resources make this plant an ally for keeping fit and staying healthy.

Aloe vera for digestion

Thanks to its laxative properties, aloe vera juice is an excellent digestive aid. In addition, it is made up of enzymes that help intestinal bacteria do their job and also allow the body to regulate bowel movements.

Aloe vera in juice form is ideal for cleansing the digestive tract. It reduces the accumulation of toxins in the body, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract.

For this specific issue, aloe vera juice is a definite advantage, because this form allows the stomach to absorb the liquid and all the nutrients it contains.

Consuming aloe vera juice helps prevent a number of digestive problems such as bloating, diarrhea, gas, and heartburn.

That is why, when traveling abroad, consuming aloe vera juice can help the body more easily tolerate changes in diet.

The juice also has the advantage of stimulating bile production in the gallbladder. This greatly helps break down fat and reduces the risk of constipation.

Nutritional and detoxifying benefits

Aloe vera juice is particularly recommended for a detoxifying cleanse. The nutritional richness of this superfood gives its juice purgative properties that cleanse the body (liver, kidneys, etc.).

It eliminates toxins and waste that interfere with the proper functioning of our organs and reduce their efficiency.

Additionally, aloe vera juice can be a slimming ally. Starting with its anti-inflammatory properties, which may help reduce weight gain and lessen metabolic problems.

Aloe vera juice is also a powerful laxative, because it contains aloin, which can also aid weight loss. However, studies on the matter are limited, so this information should be taken with caution.

A great hydrator

With no fewer than 200 active components, aloe vera juice is an excellent moisturizer for the whole body, including the skin. It prevents drying and moisturizes without adding greasiness.

Because of its healing virtues, combined with its moisturizing properties, aloe vera juice is a good cosmetic alternative. It can therefore serve as a skin moisturizer, facial cleanser, or makeup remover. With one clear advantage: being 100% natural.

pH regulation

The alkalinity of aloe vera makes it a good pH regulator. The human body is constantly exposed to various organisms and an acidic pH increases the body’s vulnerability, creating an environment conducive to the development of disease.

An external pH regulator is a good way to help the body cope with these organisms, because it no longer needs to spend energy rebalancing between acidity and alkalinity.

Where to find and how to make aloe vera juice?

Getting aloe leaves

If you want aloe vera juice at home, there’s a very simple solution: make your own homemade aloe vera juice.

The first thing to do is to find aloe leaves. Easy for those who grow aloe vera in a pot or in their garden: you can use the plant’s leaves directly (provided that it is indeed an aloe vera barbadensis miller).

However, you should make sure the plant’s leaves are large enough, about 30 centimeters long. The leaves should also be thick enough and therefore have enough gel to extract.

Aloe leaves are also sold in some local shops or in supermarkets and organic grocery stores. It is also possible to order them online. In addition, there are websites specialized in selling organic aloe vera leaves.

Precautions to take before making homemade aloe vera juice

When preparing the juice, you must take particular care to use only the gel found inside the leaf. If the juice is to be drunk, you must also ensure that the variety used is suitable for consumption, aloe vera barbadensis miller.

According to Anses (the French National Agency for Food Safety), the exterior of aloe vera leaves is highly laxative and potentially carcinogenic.

The yellow liquid that flows when the leaf is cut contains hydroxyanthracene derivatives. Therefore, before consuming the juice, you should make sure all traces of latex have been removed.

Recipe for drinkable aloe vera juice

  1. Start by removing the spines from the leaf, then remove the skin on both sides.
  2. Scoop out the aloe vera gel and place it in a blender. Add lemon juice and honey.
  3. Pour in spring water and blend everything together.
  4. Store your juice in the refrigerator before consuming it.

It should be noted that the aloe leaf can be stored and used for several days after being cut.

If part of the leaf remains, place it in a dry place away from sunlight. Over time, the leaf will lose some of its moisture and volume.

Buying organic aloe vera juice

My selection

I wholeheartedly recommend the organic aloe vera juice from the brand Natura Force. Cold-pressed, it comes from Andalusia in southern Spain.

I recommend this juice because it is made from fresh leaves hand-picked the same day, which is particularly rare.

We really like Natura Force: it’s a small French company based in the South of France, launched in 2015 by Thierry Sestrieres after a trip to South America rich in discoveries superfood.

When placing your order, use the promo code “DARWIN” to get 10% off all products. This way you’ll also help support our blog because Natura Force is a partner.

Precautions and dosage

Ready-to-drink aloe vera juices are sold in supermarkets and are usually found in the beverage aisle. You can order them from specialty websites.

Unlike the juice sold in supermarkets, which is often a version made from powdered aloe extract, pure aloe vera juice should not be consumed like apple juice.

Because of its laxative properties, it is preferable to take one or two tablespoons of juice in the morning or evening, either straight or mixed into a beverage such as a smoothie.
