Like many higher education diplomas, the BTS Dietetics is dense and demanding. It is essential for all those wishing to pursue a career as a dietician-nutritionist either privately or as an employee.

In-person as well as with 100% online, the training lasts two years, paced by a scientific program ranging from culinary techniques to pathophysiology, including biochemistry. 

Distance learning can indeed be appealing. It offers two main advantages in my opinion: flexibility in the learning path and lower cost.

However, I find it crucial to ensure your success as a student to have a serious, motivational, and realistic framework facing the challenges of this field. It must provide you with all the necessary tools for the exam.

To help you choose your distance BTS dietetics, I have compared the 6 currently available private courses based on 4 main criteria. I have evaluated and rated each one of them.

Schools analyzed: Studi (brand Academee), Skill and You (brands Be Academie, Educatel), L’atelier des Chefs, Etudis (Adonis), E-Diderot, and IFSNM.

Methodology

To compare the institutions offering this distance BTS, I determined four main criteria to evaluate and differentiate them. 

Each criterion is given a score out of 5, based on the information gathered and my interactions with each of the schools. The average of the four determines the final selection.

1. Pedagogical and academic quality

The first criterion first verifies the school’s quality labels and the recognition of the obtained diploma, as well as the qualification of the teachers.

Most schools also estimate an average number of teaching hours for the two years of BTS Dietetics, although the student manages their own study time. 

Different educational resources are also available and compared based on their relevance and the duration of access to various resources.

Unfortunately, I was unable to appreciate the success rate which seems to me to be an important argument. The majority of schools do not specify it or it remains declarative without any means of verification. 

Indeed, the education authority does not differentiate between students: public, private, distance, in-person, or free candidates. The national success rate of the BTS dietetics is on average below 50%. 

2. Accessibility and student support

The second criterion compares the presence of tutoring and personalized support for the student. Between internships, a thesis to write, and written exams, support is important.

The possibility to interact with teachers, other students, and how frequently, turns out to be a positive point for the concerned schools.

Finally, I attach importance to administrative support, such as registration for the exam and internship agreements.

3. Cost and Additional Services

The prices of distance learning and funding solutions vary from school to school. This is obviously one of the selection criteria.

Several educational options are available, included or paid: coaching, specific subjects, and others. Their relevance contributes to the rating of this criterion.

I also found it interesting to compare the duration of access to resources and the possibility of in-person learning for certain schools.

4. Opportunities and Recognition

The BTS dietetics includes mandatory internships: 20 weeks in total. In collective catering or the hospital sector, some schools can help you find them more easily.

I took into account the employment support. Some schools care about this and I find this point essential. Although none can establish figures regarding professional integration that could allow evaluating this reality of the profession.

Finally, reading the reviews on student forums as well as online ratings completes my analysis of the six remote education providers chosen.

# Best Distance BTS Dietetics 🥇

The professional reality of L’atelier des Chefs is an asset for learning the dietitian profession. Pedagogy, content, and practice are at the heart of the training. The human contact and proximity to the teachers put it at the top of the ranking.

Initially recognized for its cooking classes, L’atelier des Chefs stands out for the richness of its content and its professional approach. 

Qualiopi certified and validated by experts, Best Workers of France, it has recently diversified by offering distance degree programs. 

A refresher course is included for students who need it. The modules follow the national guideline, ensuring good preparation for exams.

The online support offers content available up to 3 years:

• written courses
• live courses or available in replay
• videos and podcasts available for free access.

A two-day in-person internship, in the Paris region, to prepare for the ATA exam, Technological Food Activities, is possible.

The educational advisor mentions quality teachers, dietitians, and chefs, naming them and citing their profiles on networks. A human approach seems to be at the heart of the approach explaining the teacher-student interactions, corrections, and possibilities for Q&A.

A personalized support is noted with a career expert for technical questions, and a coach for motivation and other questions.

A downside in my opinion: the memory coaching is chargeable, as with many schools. However, the all-inclusive training price remains within averages and is not the highest on the market.

With a solid professional network, L’atelier des Chefs offers good prospects both for internships and post-diploma professional integration. 

A “recruitment forum” is also available to students. A business creation coaching is also offered additionally, which may suit your project.

# Best Alternative

In summary, the Skill and You platform offers quality training. The possibility of retaining exam scores above average for 5 years is explained and reflects honesty regarding the difficulty level of this BTS. Its competitive price payable in 36 installments makes it accessible to a larger number.

Skill and You is one of Europe’s leaders in distance learning, comprising several specialized schools, including Be Académie and Educatel. All 3 brands offer the same dietetics BTS remotely.

The school highlights its flexibility and modern digital tools: intuitive platform, interactive virtual classes, mobile app, and well-structured digital teaching materials.

Cooking videos are also accessible, as well as a student space open 24/7 to allow exchanges. 

The school mentions a partnership with Hellowork to facilitate access to job and internship searches.

Educational options such as upgrading courses, life coaching, and TOEIC are available (paid). 

The total cost of the remote dietetics BTS training is among the lowest in the field and the payment schedule up to 36 months can facilitate access.

E-Diderot justifies its rather high rate by its expertise, the extent of its materials, contents, and personalized follow-ups. Despite several criticisms from former students and teachers pointing out the sometimes overly commercial approach of the institution, access to campuses is a real ‘plus’ and ranks it in the top 3. 

E-Diderot belongs to the Diderot Education group, active in higher education for over twenty years and from the start, in dietetics and human nutrition.

The school has evolved with new technologies, offering interactive and Qualiopi-certified distance learning. Modern digital tools like an app and an intuitive platform are among their arguments.

Flexible offers from “initial” to “comprehensive” are presented to suit students’ needs and budgets.

However, the most complete packages seem the most interesting from an educational point of view and thus the most expensive. These are the “enhanced” and “comprehensive” packages. 

They naturally include the e-learning platform, but also individual educational coaching, virtual classes, several mock exams, a dissertation review, everything essential to be ready for the exam.

I really like the active teaching highlighted: providing classes before class time, thus accessible at all times, before and after exercises.

As well as the possibility of physically accessing the nearest campuses. For students feeling isolated or needing to work outside the home, it is a significant asset.

E-Diderot also offers many very interesting additional options, which are paid again: such as sports training management for nutritional support.

The Adonis group has many years of experience in both in-person and distance education. However, their offer ultimately does not stand out much from others and remains imprecise regarding the follow-up and cooking internship.

Recognized for its expertise in dietetics and paramedical fields, Etudis, from the ADONIS group specializing in health and nutrition-related training, has been offering a distance version for about ten years.

The teachers are all professionals in the subjects taught and there is a space dedicated to student-teacher exchanges. Phone appointments are possible depending on the chosen package.

Indeed, four different packages offer access to personalized support, live courses, or even oral simulations.

Here too, the cost is rather high when certain options, yet essential for the success of this distance course, are chosen.

Another point, a leveling is said to be mandatory for non-scientific students (additional cost).

The courses are structured with paper and digital materials. Regular assignments are required to assess knowledge, with personalized corrections provided.

Adonis mentions an option for in-person cooking classes in certain cities, provided there are enough registered students (no additional details).

An expanded professional network for internships highlights the possibility of opportunities. Moving forward, two courses after the BTS Dietetics are offered, which may interest future graduates.

The school highlights its e-learning expertise and career coaching to support each project. The pedagogical approach is less convincing, with courses only accessible step by step, a lack of information on the number of available practice exams, and the possibility of graduating in 1 year.

In 1999, Studi and the M6 group created a 100% online school called Academee. This marks the beginnings of the internet. In 2021, Studi and Academee embark on training future health professionals. 

E-learning and numerous digital partnerships (such as Galileo Global Education) show a real desire to offer innovative and fun tools for learning.

The platform, available for 2 years, is also accessible via an app: with more than 4000 live courses delivered by dieticians, doctors, and specialized teachers, replays, courses downloadable in pdf…

Academee also provides access to student chats and encourages student-teacher interactions. They promise answers to questions within a maximum of 24 hours. 

I found little information about thesis writing support and its necessity for the exam on the site. However, I got information by phone: support with a dedicated teacher would be included.

There is a piece of information missing that I find would be useful to know: the number of mock exams included in the program, which I think is useful to know.

Finally, the school emphasizes career coaching included in the training. It corresponds to 40 hours of tutorials to assist in job searches, support professional integration, and obtain a “Ready for work” certificate.

Academee thus presents a certain professional realism, without providing a true professional network. However, I found the repeated mention of completing this BTS in 1 year, both on the site and by phone, unrealistic.

This training institute is specialized solely in the field of nutrition. For this first year, there is a notable lack of insight into the concrete number of mock exams, the actual personalized support students might benefit from, and the diploma to be completed in 1 year. The price is quite high.

The Higher Education Institute in Nutrition and Micronutrition (IFSNM) offers the BTS Dietetics at a distance for the first year. This 100% online training was created by health professionals. 

The teaching team also consists of scientists: pharmacists and dietitians.

The institute aims to provide extensive educational support. For now, tutoring is estimated at an average of 10 sessions per year. 

The IFSNM highlights an interactive pedagogy with quizzes, virtual classes, and practical exercises in continuous assessment, while offering long-term access to resources after the training.

However, over the phone, this information is contradicted as I was told access is only available for 24 months. Only one mock exam is planned for now.

The BTS is also possible in 1 year, intensively. Over the phone, I mentioned a possible need for leveling for non-scientists, and the response seemed quite unrealistic to me: “it’s not necessary”.

Although the institute values personalized support, assistance for finding internships and post-diploma professional life is not a priority at the moment.

I find the professional approach interesting, with a focus on nutrition and micronutrition. Moreover, graduated dietitians can choose a specific training.

My advice on choosing the right distance dietetics BTS

It is not easy to choose the right training. The stakes are high because the preparation for the Higher Technical Diploma in Dietetics at a distance may be more difficult than in-person.

A commercial stake surely drives these private schools, but it is also the case for in-person training. The representatives may be more or less convincing, without proving the seriousness of the content delivered afterward.

I therefore advise you to compare prices and available funding options based on your situation. Also pay attention to the flexibility and practical tools you need.

Another tip, don’t hesitate to contact former students to know their opinion and experience. To do this, simply perform a keyword search on LinkedIn.

Self-discipline, organization skills, your scientific abilities, and motivation are the major assets that will make the greatest difference.
