The benefits of fasting

For our seventh episode, we will talk about fasting.

Fasting ? Who hasn’t honestly thought about it the morning after a party or after a meal that was too heavy ?

But how should you go about it ? When and how should you fast ? For how long ? Are there any contraindications ?

A trendy new therapy for detoxifying the body, fasting seems to be one of the oldest self-healing approaches. In nature, animals instinctively stop eating when they are sick or injured.

According to its proponents, fasting would contribute to maintaining good health, just like a healthy diet, physical exercise, and emotional balance.

The guest: Dr. Lionel Coudron

It’s hard to present Lionel Coudron in a few words. He has a keen eye and a generous smile.

A medical doctor, qualified among other things in biology, nutrition, micro-nutrition and acupuncture, he has been teaching yoga for over 30 years and is the director of the Institute of Yoga Therapy France.

He is also certified in and practices EMDR, a neuro-emotional reprogramming technique.

He is the author of numerous books on yoga, nutrition, well-being and relaxation, and, above all — the subject that concerns us today — of a « Practical Guide to Fasting », published in 2017 by Terre Vivante.

My questions

  • You are a physician and yogi, with a degree in nutrition: how did you become interested in the question of fasting?
  • There are controversies about fasting in the scientific community. When you look on the Internet, there is really a lot of conflicting information on the subject… Could you summarize the debate for us?
  • What are the different types of fasting?
  • Which one is the easiest to implement?
  • How can you fast at home safely?
  • How does fasting act on the body and improve our health?
  • Does it really have any impact on our daily well-being?
  • What are the side effects and how can they best be managed?
  • Without going as far as fasting, how can you initially establish habits that benefit your health?
  • Without naming them, do you have any notable patient experiences to share with us?
