Inflammation is talked about everywhere these days. We don’t really know whether it concerns our bodies, our hearts, our minds, our screens, or even our forests. Multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, inflammatory bowel disease — these disabling conditions, mostly autoimmune in origin, affect 5% to 8% of the population, and that number keeps rising.

Three quarters of these patients are women. The AIP protocol, which we will discuss today, by fighting chronic inflammation and thus immune system dysfunction, could silence them.

Guests: Ludy de Menten and Sonia Sidle

Today I have two guests who just co-authored a book published by Thierry Souccar, titled “Treating Autoimmunity with the IAP Protocol”.

Ludy de Menten is a Doctor of Biology and a health coach specializing in nutrigenomics. She has Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and vitiligo.

Sonia Sidle is a nutritional therapist and coach. She has endometriosis as well as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, as does her teenage son.

My questions

  • You speak openly about your respective illnesses — was it because of them that you explored these topics of immunity and inflammation?
  • What is the link between chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases?
  • What are the different triggers of these inflammatory diseases?
  • In particular, what are intestinal dysbiosis and intestinal hyperpermeability?
  • What are the most inflammatory foods and the associated deficiencies?
  • How can we improve our digestion? You give three tips that I found very interesting.
  • Where does the AIP protocol come from? Can you briefly explain what it involves?
  • How can inflammation be reduced? And specifically through diet?
  • Can you tell us about the 9 superhero foods you mention in your book?
  • And which foods should be excluded?
  • What are the different steps of the protocol to ease into it?
  • What are the main principles of an AIP plate?
  • Can all foods be reintroduced after an elimination phase?
  • Even if you’re not affected by an autoimmune disease, can you follow its nutritional principles (I’m wondering about removing legumes during the elimination phase, for example)? What would your nutritional recommendations be for people without apparent autoimmune diseases?
  • Can you give us one or two favorite recipes?
