Pros

  • A holistic “in&out” beauty approach and supplements in original formats (collagen powder to dilute, culinary oil enriched with omegas).
  • Prices that remain competitive compared to competitors
  • A sustainable approach.

Cons

  • Transparency could be improved by showing the origin of the raw materials used on the site.
  • A rather “marketing” approach with a team that is not very scientific.

Overview of Aime Skincare

Aime is a brand that offers dietary supplements focused on beauty goals (skin, hair, body) and to improve sleep. Its approach is holistic, or “in&out”, meaning that it combines dietary supplements with cosmetics.

All supplements are made in France. The capsules are plant-based. Several ingredients are organic: the cocoa powder, the matcha powder from Cacao Glow, matcha green tea and the aloe vera juice powder from Matcha Glow. The collagen used is of marine origin.

Some packaging is recyclable. This is the case for pill organizers, glass bottles and the packaging of the Simple Cleanser.

Products

Range

Aime offers:

  • dietary supplements: capsules, oil, lotion, sticks, plant blend.
  • facial care: serum, cream, gel, deodorant, perfume.
  • Accessories: water bottle, brush, measuring spoon, travel kit, pouch, bag.

I find the drinkable supplement formats Cacao glow and Matcha glow particularly original: they are powders made from collagen, cacao or matcha to be mixed into hot water or plant-based milk.

The Omega glow is also a unique format that moves away from traditional omega capsules. It can be used in cooking in many no-cook recipes.

Focus on Aime’s environmental commitment

Aime says it sources packaging (paper and cardboard) from responsibly managed forests. The brand has introduced a refill system for dietary supplements.

Aime donates 1% of its annual revenue to the NGO Planète Urgence via the “1% for the Planet” project. This NGO is committed to the protection of forests and the preservation of biodiversity. The company, for example, contributed to the reforestation of tapias, trees endemic to Madagascar.

Our test

Product: ★★★★

I tested several Aime products: the French glow (with 2 eco refills), the Omega glow, the Matcha glow, the Cacao glow, the Sleep & glow and the Body elixir.

The products are well packaged and protected in the package. The packaging is attractive. They are opaque and protect the products well from light.

The labels show the detailed composition of the products as well as usage advice. A flyer presents Aime’s mission as well as dietary advice: reducing consumption of cow’s milk, sugar etc…

I also have a leaflet on the Omega glow as well as four recipe ideas using this supplement, such as a hummus dip.

The capsules of French glow have a neutral scent and are easy to swallow.

  • The Omega glow has a color close to that of olive oil. It can be consumed neat but I find it interesting to use its powerful aroma and taste in cooking: it adds an original touch to recipes. It is easy to use to flavor a vinaigrette or hummus, for example.
  • The Body elixir diluted in water is peach-colored. The bottle’s scent is similar to pomegranate juice.  On the palate I notice a bitterness when tasting. Furthermore, the dosing cap is not very practical because when screwing it back on the elixir runs down the bottle.
  • The Sleep & glow is liquid and light yellow in color. Neat, I found it bitter. It is easier to consume diluted in water.
  • The Matcha glow and Cacao glow dissolve very well in hot water. Green tea or matcha lovers will not be surprised by the bitterness of the Matcha glow. The Cacao glow is mild and its chocolatey flavor is pleasant. To soften these beverages you can use plant-based milk instead of water.

Price: ★★★★☆

The composition of the products in Aime’s range is unique. We did not find any product with similar formulations to make a precise price comparison.

However, we found a supplement similar to Matcha Glow from Biocyte.

The three brands use hydrolyzed type 1 collagen.

We note that the price per gram of collagen is two times lower at Aime than at Biocyte and eight times lower than that charged by D+ for care.

Aime ships worldwide: standard Colissimo mailbox delivery is free for purchases of €60 or more in France. Otherwise, the fee is €4.90. You may receive gifts once a certain purchase amount is reached.

There are value-priced sets, for example the 3-pack of Summer Glow is €80 instead of €90. The Perfect Tanning Duo, including Omega Glow and Summer Glow, is €59 instead of €69.

You can subscribe to a plan to receive your supplements every month. It provides a 10% discount.

Aime also offers gift cards with a minimum value of €30.

The brand has a store in Paris in the 11th arrondissement. They can also be found within the Galeries Lafayette on the Champs-Élysées and in several Sephora stores.

Transparency: ★★★★☆

The product pages present the detailed composition of the products but Aime does not specify the origin of the ingredients of its dietary supplements.

For greater transparency, Aime could mention the origin of the raw materials used in its formulations.

The products’ analysis certificates are not available on the website, but they are available on request.

Aime was founded in 2018 by Mathilde Lacombe and François Morrier. When faced with skin problems (rosacea), Mathilde met Valérie Espinasse, a micronutritionist and Doctor of Pharmacy. She notably gave her advice on caring for her microbiome.

Mathilde holds a Master’s degree in Communication in Paris. She worked as a journalist for Elle magazine. François holds a master’s degree from the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI) and from ESCP Europe.

Before Aime, Mathilde and François co-founded the beauty startup Joliebox, which has since been acquired by Birchbox.

At Aime’s launch, the founders raised €350,000 from angel investors.

Expertise: ★★★

Each product page provides a detailed description of the effects of the active ingredients in the supplements. However, no scientific sources are cited.

The brand has a beauty guide that explores various topics related to skincare and beauty, such as “How to properly cleanse the skin on your face” or “The benefits of collagen”.

The skincare and beauty guide

In the FAQ tab, there are a number of articles, such as “I have hormonal acne, which supplement should I take?” or “I want a supplement to slow the aging of my skin”.

Looking in detail, one can see that Aime’s founders and their team do not have a scientific background. But the company collaborates with health experts (micronutritionists and dietitians) for product formulation and ingredient sourcing.

According to Aime, her suppliers and development team conduct ongoing scientific monitoring.

The Glow studio in the 11th arrondissement of Paris is a space dedicated to comprehensive skin care. The treatments offered cover the face, hair, and body. A LED bar and naturopathic support are also offered.

Popularity: ★★★★☆

I used the SemRush tool to analyze Aime’s website traffic. In August 2021, the site had organic traffic of over 25,000 unique visitors. This is in the mid-range compared to other supplement brands

On social media, Aime counts nearly 2,300 followers on Facebook and more than 98,000 followers on Instagram. This reflects the brand’s strong recognition and that of its co-founder, whose personal Instagram account is followed by more than 132,000 fans.

On the Sephora website, the products with the most reviews are Pure Glow (rating of 4.1 from 16 reviews) and French Glow (rating of 4.3 from 9 reviews). The highest ratings emphasize the effectiveness of the products and the ease of use of the supplements.

Customer service is available by phone and by email.

I contacted customer service by email to ask them the following questions:

  • Is all the packaging recyclable?
  • Doesn’t the tyndallization process of the probiotics alter their effect?
  • Where do the cocoa and maca in the Cacao glow come from?
  • Should I change my caffeine consumption (tea, coffee) when taking the Cacao or Matcha glow?
  • Which plant-based milk do you recommend for diluting the Matcha and Cacao glow?
  • Are the products’ certificates of analysis available on request? For example, the one for French glow?
  • Where does the ashwagandha root in the Sleep & glow come from? Doesn’t taking matcha or cacao glow (caffeine) risk reducing its effect?

Here are the answers I received:

I received responses very quickly (in less than two days) that were clear and precise in answering my questions.

The manufacturing of the supplements is done in France.

The laboratories are certified ISO 22000, (implementation of a food safety management system) and HACCP (food safety methods).
