Best organic fenugreek seeds
We tested different brands and recommend the fenugreek seeds from the French brand amOseeds (read our detailed review of this brand). This fenugreek comes from organic farming and is naturally dried before packaging.
We recommend (and consume!) amOseeds’ superfoods because its founders source directly from local organic cooperatives. They therefore offer very high-quality products, at lower prices.

What are the benefits of fenugreek?
An anti-diabetic spice
The fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is a plant native to North Africa. It has been used since antiquity as animal fodder, for the embalming of mummies, as a spice in cooking but also as a traditional remedy.
It is an integral part of Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. While the leaves are interesting, it is the seeds that contain the most active compounds.
Research has notably shown anti-diabetic effects. Thanks to its richness in fiber and saponins, it helps regulate blood sugar and promotes insulin production.
Furthermore, as shown by this study, it improves the lipid profile of people with diabetes. It thus reduces cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood.
An ally for women
Like moringa and maca, it has a galactogenic action. Thus, it stimulates milk production throughout the entire breastfeeding period. It is therefore a valuable ally for young breastfeeding mothers.
Fenugreek is also a hormonal regulator because its seeds contain phytoestrogens. Consuming it relieves menopause symptoms (hot flashes, night sweats…).
Traditionally, it is also said to increase breast size and to shape the hips and buttocks.

Where to buy fenugreek?
Organic stores
Various organic stores (Naturalia, Biocoop…) offer fenugreek grown in organic agriculture. This guarantees a product free from pesticide residues, free of GMOs, and non-irradiated.
It is often sold as a powder or in capsules. You can also find fenugreek oil or whole seeds.
Pharmacies and parapharmacies
Favor pharmacies and parapharmacies that have a “phytotherapy” section. They often sell fenugreek in capsules or in powder. It can be alone or combined with other plants like spirulina.
Specialized brick-and-mortar stores
Check supplement retailers and health food stores. You will likely find capsules or powder there.
Herbal shops sometimes offer whole seeds and herbal tea bags.
Specialized online shops and e-commerce sites
To buy a quality product, prefer the online organic stores. Kazidomi or La Fourche, for example, offer different forms: whole seeds, powder, capsules…
Resellers, laboratories and dietary supplement brands, such as Natura Force, are also worth considering.
Direct from producers
India is the world’s leading producer. In France, some producers are present in the Mediterranean basin and southwestern France. If possible, buy from these local producers.

In what form?
Whole seeds
Whole seeds have a yellow-brown color. Once harvested at maturity, they are sorted and packaged. This form is ideal for making herbal teas, infusions and decoctions.
You can also grind the seeds and use them as a spice. They have a strong, fairly bitter taste.
Capsules and tablets
Capsules and tablets are made from fenugreek seed powder . Choose this format if you don’t like the very pronounced taste of the seeds. In addition, it is convenient and easy to take daily.
Powder
The powder is obtained by drying then grinding the seeds. It has a yellow-green color and a strong, vegetal smell. It can be mixed into a glass of water or sprinkled directly on dishes: meats, fish, vegetables…
It is also used to make homemade cosmetics.
Vegetable oil
The seeds can be ground to extract a vegetable oil. This oil is intended for external use only.
It is believed to help strengthen hair and stimulate hair growth. It also helps care for mature or tired skin.

What criteria should be taken into account?
1. Saponin content
To be fully effective, the product must be sufficiently concentrated in saponins. Choose a dietary supplement standardized to at least 50% saponins.
2. Cultivation method
Prefer an organic certified product and therefore free of pesticide residues. Organic farming guarantees fenugreek grown under good conditions and without GMOs. This method of cultivation is also more environmentally friendly.
3. Composition
Seeds, capsules and tablets should be additive-free, without dyes or preservatives. Also choose a powder 100 % natural. Finally, the vegetable oil should be pure and obtained by cold pressing.
4. Origin
Fenugreek mainly comes from the state of Rajasthan, in the northwest of India. Other countries in Asia, North Africa and southern Europe also produce it.
5. Price
The price is about €8 for 500 g of organic seeds.
Expect about €10 for 120 organic capsules.
Powder costs around €6 for 200 g.
Finally, vegetable oil can be found at around €10 per 100 ml.
