Like many higher-education qualifications, the BTS in Dietetics is dense and demanding. It is essential for anyone wishing to practice as a dietitian-nutritionist, whether in private practice or as an employee.

Whether in person or 100% online, the program lasts two years, structured around a scientific curriculum ranging from culinary techniques to pathophysiology, including biochemistry.

Distance learning can indeed be appealing. In my view, it offers two main advantages: flexibility in the learning pathway and a lower cost.

However, to ensure your success as a student, it seems crucial to have a serious, motivating, and realistic framework in light of the challenges of this program. It should provide you with all the tools required for the exam.

To help you choose your online BTS in Dietetics, I compared the 6 private programs currently available according to 4 main criteria. And I evaluated and rated each of them.

Schools analyzed : Studi (brand Academee), Skill and You (brands Be Academie, Educatel), L’atelier des Chefs, Etudis (Adonis), E-Diderot and IFSNM.

We evaluate all programs independently. If you click on one of the links provided, we may receive a commission.

Methodology

To compare the institutions offering this BTS online, I identified four main criteria to evaluate and differentiate them.

Each criterion is given a score out of 5, based on the information collected and my discussions with each of the schools. The average of the four determines the final selection.

1. Instructional and academic quality

The first criterion is to verify the school’s quality certifications and the recognition of the degree awarded, as well as the instructors’ qualifications.

Most schools also estimate an average number of instructional hours for the two years of the BTS in Dietetics, even though the student manages their own study time.

Various educational materials are also made available and compared based on their relevance and the duration of access to the various resources.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t assess the pass rate which I still consider an important point. Most schools do not specify it, or it remains merely self-reported with no way to verify.

Indeed, the education authority does not differentiate between students: students at public schools, private schools, distance learning, in-person, or independent candidates. The national pass rate for the BTS in Dietetics is on average below 50%.

2. Accessibility and student support

The second criterion compares the availability of tutoring and personalized support for the student. Between internships, a thesis to write, and written exams, support is important.

The ability to interact with teachers, with other students, and how frequently, is a positive factor for the schools in question.

Finally, I place importance on administrative support, such as exam registration and internship agreements.

3. Cost and additional services

The cost of distance learning and financing options vary from one school to another. This obviously factors into the selection criteria.

Several educational options are available, either included or paid: coaching, specific subjects, and more. Their relevance factors into the scoring of this criterion.

I also found it useful to compare the length of access to resources and the possibility of in-person learning for certain schools.

4. Career prospects and recognition

The BTS in Dietetics includes mandatory internships: 20 weeks in total. In institutional food service or hospital settings, some schools can help you find them more easily.

I took into account the job-placement support. Some schools care about this, and I consider it essential. Although none can provide figures on employment outcomes that would help assess this reality of the profession.

Finally, reading the reviews on student forums as well as the online ratings completes my analysis of the six selected distance-learning providers.

# Best distance-learning Dietetics BTS 🥇

bts atelier des chefs

L’atelier des Chefs : 19/20

Pedagogy: ★★★★
Support: ★★★★
Costs: ★★★★
Career prospects: ★★★★

Price: €3,490 – CPF-eligible

The real-world professional environment at L’atelier des Chefs is an asset for training as a dietitian. Pedagogy, content, and practice are at the heart of the program. The human connection and the accessibility of the instructors put it at the top of the rankings.

Advantages

  • Professional network
  • Student and alumni network
  • Teacher qualifications
  • Possibility of an in-person internship for the ATA exam
  • Overall success rate across all programs of 97%

Disadvantages

  • Paid thesis coaching
  • Limited track record due to the program’s recent creation

Initially known for its cooking classes, L’atelier des Chefs stands out for the richness of its content and its professional approach.

Qualiopi-certified and validated by experts, Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, it has recently diversified by offering online degree programs.

A refresher course is included for students who need it. The modules follow the national framework, ensuring solid preparation for the exams.

The online platform offers content available for up to 3 years:

  • written courses
  • live classes or available as replays
  • videos and podcasts freely accessible.

A two-day in-person workshop in the Paris area to prepare for the ATA exam, Food Technology Activities, is available.

The academic advisor mentions high-quality instructors—dietitians and chefs—names them and lists their profiles on social media. A human approach seems to be at the core of the program, explaining the interactions between students and teachers, the grading, and the opportunities for Q&A.

There is personalized support with a subject-matter expert for technical questions, and a coach for motivation and other questions.

One downside in my opinion: thesis coaching is paid, as with many schools. However, the all-inclusive program price is about average and not the highest on the market.

With a strong professional network, L’atelier des Chefs offers good prospects for both internships and post-graduation job placement.

A “recruitment forum” is also available to students. Entrepreneurship coaching is also offered, for an additional fee, and may be suitable depending on your project.

# Best alternative

skill and you

Skill and You : 16/20

Pedagogy: ★★★★
Support: ★★★★
Costs: ★★★★
Career opportunities: ★★★★

Price: €3,470 – CPF-eligible

In summary, the Skill and You platform offers quality training. The ability to retain exam scores above the passing grade for 5 years is explained and demonstrates transparency about the level of difficulty of this BTS. Its competitive pricing payable in 36 monthly installments makes it accessible to a wider audience.

Advantages

  • Competitive pricing
  • Digital tools
  • Access to the platform for 48 months
  • Teachers chosen for their qualifications and professional backgrounds
  • Commitment to providing personalized support: corrections, coaching…

Disadvantages

  • Overall success rate of 60% (all programs combined, which may seem relatively low compared to other similar platforms)
  • Mobile app needs improvement according to some student reviews
  • Autonomy in finding internships is often criticized in student reviews

Skill and You is one of the European leaders in distance learning, bringing together several specialized schools, including Be Académie and Educatel. The three brands offer the same distance-learning BTS in Dietetics.

The school highlights its flexibility and modern digital tools: an intuitive platform, interactive virtual classes, a mobile app, and well-structured digital learning materials.

Cooking videos are also available, as is a 24/7 student portal to facilitate interaction.

The school mentions a partnership with Hellowork to make it easier to search for jobs and internships.

Educational options such as a refresher course, life coaching, and the TOEIC are available (for a fee).

The total cost of the online BTS Dietetics program is among the lowest in the field, and a payment plan of up to 36 months may make it more accessible.

e-diderot

E-Diderot : 15/20

Pedagogy : ★★★★
Support : ★★★
Costs : ★★★★
Career prospects : ★★★

Price: €2,990 – €6,700 – CPF-eligible

E-Diderot justifies its rather high price by its expertise, the breadth of its resources and content and its personalized support. Despite several criticisms from former students and former teachers pointing out the institution’s approach as sometimes too commercial, access to the campuses is a real “plus” and a spot in the top 3.

Advantages

  • Many years of experience in teaching this BTS
  • Open house days
  • “partners” network thanks to the Diderot Education Group
  • Access for remote students to co-working spaces on the campuses
  • Live cooking classes to prepare for the ATA

Disadvantages

  • High cost
  • Platform accessible for only 2 years (+ grace period), then you have to pay again
  • Negative feedback from students and teachers regarding the school’s structural framework

E-Diderot belongs to the Diderot Education group, active in higher education for more than twenty years and, from the outset, in dietetics and human nutrition.

The school has been able to evolve with new technologies, offering interactive, Qualiopi-certified distance learning programs. Modern digital tools such as an app and an intuitive platform are among their selling points.

Some flexible plans from “Starter” to “Comprehensive” are offered to suit students’ needs and budgets.

However, the most comprehensive plans seem the most compelling from an educational standpoint and therefore the most expensive. These are the “Enhanced” and “Comprehensive” plans.

They of course include the e-learning platform, but also one-on-one academic coaching, virtual classes, several mock exams, a thesis review, everything essential to be ready to take the exam.

I really like the active learning approach highlighted: delivering lessons before class time, thus accessible at any time, before and after the exercises.

As well as the ability to physically access the nearest campuses. For students who feel isolated or need to work away from home, this is a significant advantage.

E-Diderot also offers many very interesting additional options, again for a fee: such as training overseen by a sports professional for nutritional coaching.

etudis

Etudis (Adonis) : 14/20

Pedagogy: ★★★★
Support: ★★★
Costs: ★★★★
Career prospects: ★★★

Price: 1450€ – 6600€ – Eligible for CPF funding

The Adonis group has many years of experience in education, both in-person and distance learning. However, their offering does not stand out much from others and remains unclear about the support and the culinary internship.

Advantages

  • Many years of experience in teaching this BTS
  • Open house days
  • Student ID card
  • Personalized corrections
  • In-person cooking internship possible (Easter period)

Disadvantages

  • High cost
  • Platform accessible for only 2 years, then you have to pay again
  • No mobile app
  • Unclear details regarding the in-person internship and the number of mock exams
  • Some testimonials indicate communication problems and insufficient follow-up

Known for its expertise in dietetics and the paramedical field, Etudis, part of the ADONIS group specializing in health- and nutrition-related training, has offered a remote option for about ten years.

All the instructors are professionals in the subjects they teach, and a space is dedicated to student-teacher communication. Phone appointments are possible depending on the plan chosen.

Indeed, four different plans provide access to personalized support, live classes, and mock oral exams.

Here too, the cost is quite high once certain options are chosen, even though they are essential for the successful completion of this distance-learning program.

Another point: a leveling course is reportedly mandatory for non-science students (additional cost).

The courses are structured using paper and digital materials. Regular assignments are required to assess knowledge, and personalized feedback is provided.

Adonis mentions an in-person cooking class option in certain cities, provided there are enough enrolled students (no further details).

An expanded professional network for internships highlights potential opportunities. Going forward, two programs after the BTS in Dietetics are offered there, which may interest future graduates.

academee

Academee (Studi) : 14/20

Pedagogy : ★★★★
Support : ★★★★
Costs : ★★★
Career opportunities : ★★★

Price: €3,890 – CPF-eligible

The school highlights its e-learning expertise and career coaching to support each project. The educational approach is less convincing, with courses that are accessible only one step at a time, a lack of clarity about the number of practice exams available, and about whether the diploma can be earned in 1 year.

Advantages

  • Career coaching
  • Teachers’ qualifications
  • Modern teaching tools (app, e-learning partnership)
  • Help with writing the thesis advertised as included
  • Promise of interactions with teachers and quick answers to your questions

Disadvantages

  • Platform available for only 2 years
  • Courses not available immediately but unlocked gradually over the months
  • Option to complete the BTS in 1 year

In 1999, Studi and the M6 group created a 100% online school called Academee. This was in the early days of the internet. In 2021, Studi and Academee began training future healthcare professionals.

E-learning and numerous digital partnerships (such as Galileo Global Education) show a real commitment to offering innovative and engaging tools for learning.

The platform, available for 2 years, is also accessible via an app: more than 4,000 live classes delivered by dietitians, doctors and specialized professors, replays, courses downloadable as PDFs…

Academee also provides access to chats between students and encourages student-teacher exchanges. They promise answers to questions within 24 hours max.

I found little information on the site about help with writing the thesis and whether it’s required for the exam. But I got information by phone: support with a dedicated professor would be included.

There’s a piece of information missing that would be useful to know, in my opinion: the number of mock exams included in the program.

Finally, the school emphasizes the career coaching included in the program. It consists of 40 hours of tutoring to help with internship searches, facilitate entry into the workforce, and obtain a “Ready for work” certificate.

Academee therefore demonstrates a certain professional realism, though it does not provide a true professional network. However, I found it unrealistic that they repeatedly mentioned completing this BTS in 1 year, both on the website and over the phone.

IFSNM

IFSNM : 10/20

Pedagogy: ★★★
Support: ★★
Costs: ★★★
Career opportunities: ★★

Price: €4,850 – CPF-eligible

This training institute is specialized exclusively in the field of nutrition. For this first year, there is limited perspective on the exact number of mock exams, the actual personalized support a student could receive, and the one-year diploma to be completed. The price is quite high.

Advantages

  • Commitment to personalized support
  • Interactive and engaging teaching
  • Professional approach with an emphasis on micronutrition, phytotherapy…

Disadvantages

  • High cost
  • Limited track record (first year in operation)
  • Option to complete the BTS in 1 year
  • Only 1 mock exam
  • Lack of clarity regarding individualized tutoring sessions

The Institute of Higher Education in Nutrition and Micronutrition (IFSNM) offers the first year of the BTS in Dietetics via distance learning. This 100% online program was created by healthcare professionals

The teaching team also includes scientists: pharmacists and dietitians.

The institute aims to provide extensive academic support. For now, tutoring is estimated at an average of 10 sessions per year.

IFSNM emphasizes an interactive teaching approach with quizzes, virtual classes, and hands-on exercises as part of continuous assessment, while offering long-term access to resources after the program.

However, by phone, this information is contradicted, since I’m told access for only 24 months. Only one mock exam is planned for now.

The BTS is also possible in 1 year, in an intensive format. Over the phone, I mention a possible need for a leveling course for non-science students; the response is, in my view, rather unrealistic: “it’s not necessary”.

Although the institute values personalized support, assistance with the search for internships and post-graduation professional life does not appear to be among the priorities for the moment.

I find the approach to the profession interesting, with a focus on nutrition and micronutrition. Qualified dietitians can also choose a specialized training program.

My tips for choosing the right online BTS in Dietetics

It is not easy to choose the right program. The stakes are high because preparing for the Brevet de Technicien Supérieur Diététique via distance learning can be more difficult than in person.

A commercial interest certainly drives these private schools, but that is also the case for in-person programs. The people you speak with may seem more or less convincing, without proving the seriousness of the content delivered afterward.

So I recommend comparing pricing as well as financing options based on your situation. Also pay attention to the flexibility and the practical tools you need.

Another tip: don’t hesitate to contact former students to learn their opinions and experience. To do this, just run a keyword search on LinkedIn.

Self-discipline, organizational ability, your scientific skills, and your motivation are the key strengths that will make the biggest difference.
