Rowan is a small tree in the Rosaceae family, reaching up to 15 meters in height, and found in Europe. Primarily ornamental, it has long pinnate leaves made up of about fifteen lanceolate, toothed leaflets connected by a petiole. In spring it produces white flowers in corymbs, followed in autumn by spherical red berries (3 to 8 mm). These fruits are toxic when raw for humans but are eaten cooked due to their acidity and bitterness.
In gemmotherapy, rowan buds are used. The fruits contain sorbitol, vitamin C, and tannins.
Traditionally, rowan bud macerate is used as an anti-inflammatory for veins and as a blood-thinning agent. It promotes venous return, which is essential for transporting blood upward in the body to reoxygenate.
This action on the blood and veins is beneficial against circulatory disorders such as varicose veins, cold feet, hemorrhoids, varicose ulcers, migraines, heavy legs, or phlebitis. It is also used to reduce tinnitus and head congestion, often related to circulatory problems.

Several randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trials (> 2), including a significant number of patients (>100), with consistently positive conclusions for the indication.
Several randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trials (> 2), including a significant number of patients (>100), with positive conclusions for the indication.
One or more randomized studies, or several cohorts or epidemiological studies, with positive conclusions for the indication.
Clinical studies exist but are uncontrolled, with conclusions that may be positive or conflicting.
No clinical studies to date that can demonstrate the indication.
The rowan bud macerate is used for several circulatory disorders of the lower limbs: in cases of venous stasis, it helps revitalize blood circulation and decongest these areas. Its tonic action on the veins allows it to treat varicose veins and hemorrhoids.
Its macerate stimulates venous return and has anti-inflammatory properties, helping to combat circulatory disorders such as varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and phlebitis.
