  • The collagen contains Ovoderm®, a very interesting anti-aging ingredient.
  • Its low molecular weight is ideal and allows for 95% bioavailability.
  • I noticed smoother, more hydrated skin and fewer wrinkles after just 1 week of use.
  • Excellent customer service: responsiveness, availability, kindness

Cons

  • I have mixed feelings about the presence of acesulfame-K and sucralose in the flavored version, so I recommend the unflavored variety, which is pure.
  • The brand has good business expertise but I couldn’t find a scientific profile on the team

Overview of Twenty DC

The brand

The brand Twenty DC positions itself in a booming sector: collagen dietary supplements. It was launched in 2021 by two entrepreneurs, Stéphane Viscuso and Maxime Barret.

The first is the founder of the French group N4Brands, founded in 1999. This family-owned company, located in the Alps in Voiron, specializes in fitness, nutrition, health, and beauty.

Maxime Barret is an entrepreneur, after studying engineering and international business.

Through its products, the brand is committed to upholding 3 fundamental commitments:

  • Mindful of the environment, it favors ingredients of optimal quality and natural origin
  • With a view to sustainable innovation, it favors short supply chains among stakeholders
  • To ensure better bioavailability, the product formulations are optimized

These supplements can be taken as soon as collagen production decreases, from age 20 (“Twenty” in English) with no age limit. Better late than never to enjoy the benefits of collagen.

Fun fact: Twenty refers to the age when collagen production decreases and D.C. is a nod to the city of Washington.

I do not recommend this supplementation for children and adolescents. The same applies to pregnant and breastfeeding women, even though none of the ingredients are harmful to the mother or the child.

In any case, I recommend seeking the advice of a doctor or pharmacist before starting your regimen.

The products

Twenty DC currently offers three dietary supplements made from collagen in the form of soluble powders to be mixed with water.

Unflavored, strawberry, chocolate caramel, vanilla, peach tea, kiwi raspberry, there’s something for every taste and goal:

  • Marine collagen : strengthened joints, silky hair, improved mobility
  • Marine collagen + Ovoderm® (natural anti-aging active) : refined skin texture, improved nails and hair, slowed skin sagging
  • Pure bovine collagen : skin hydration and reduced wrinkles

For my part, I tested the Collagène Peau Magnifique peach tea flavor (marine collagen + Ovoderm®) for 28 days.

Parcel and packaging

I received my package at home within 48 hours, the delivery is very fast. When opening it, I found my jar of collagen and the Twenty DC water bottle, which will be offered to you when you use our promo code.

The water bottle was protected in cardboard packaging, which was not the case for the collagen tub. But the size of the box was appropriate for the format of my products, which were therefore properly protected.

I would have appreciated finding a flyer to learn more about the brand, its presence on social networks and tips for using the product. In addition to adding a personalized touch to my order, it would have encouraged me to follow Twenty DC and discover more products.

Regarding the water bottle, it is made of plastic (which prevents breakage) and above all BPA-free (BPA), a polluting and toxic material. Its 600 mL volume is ideal: neither too big nor too small. I find it convenient to carry.

The packaging of Collagène Peau Magnifique isn’t too busy and looks very fresh. The jar and the measuring scoop are recyclable.

The net weight of the jar is 280 g, which is a 28-day course for me (the brand recommends a 3-month course).

You can clearly see the main information on the front: brand, product name, ingredients and flavor.

On the back, you’ll find the list of ingredients, the levels of collagen peptides and Ovoderm® (eggshells), usage instructions, the expiration date and contraindications. The font size is readable with a translation in English and Spanish.

There is a mention of the distribution laboratory, which I always see as a good sign. It is Laboratoires NG Nutrition, a lab based in Lyon and co-founded by Stéphane Viscuso. However, there is no indication of the origin of the ingredients and the brand did not wish to disclose its suppliers.

Ingredients

The Collagène Peau Magnifique contains 9.53 g of collagen peptides and 150 mg of Ovoderm® per 10 g of soluble powder.

This marine collagen is hydrolyzed and type 1. Thanks to a lower molecular mass (2000 daltons) compared with bovine collagen, its absorption by the body is more optimal (95% bioavailability). Furthermore, its composition is closer to the collagen produced by the human body.

A quick note about Ovoderm® that not everyone knows yet. This chicken eggshell membrane is naturally rich in three types of collagen.

It is an active ingredient patented by Eggnovo that contains 35% collagen as well as hyaluronic acid (skin hydration), elastin (tissue elasticity), glucosamine and chondroitin (joint lubrication).

Two pilot studies have highlighted its benefits for improving the appearance of the skin and reducing loss of elasticity.

Two artificial sweeteners are added in the flavored version: acesulfame-K and sucralose. As a dietitian, I do not endorse adding sweeteners that fuel addiction to sweetness and may promote the development of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Moreover, acesulfame-K and sucralose are not the safest on the market.

That’s why I preferred their Peau Magnifique skin collagen in neutral flavor, which contains no sweeteners.

However, I am quite won over by the results of my treatment. The formulation is highly bioavailable. From my first week of use, I noticed visible results: smoother, more hydrated and plumper skin, with fewer wrinkles.

From my first week of treatment : more hydrated skin, less acne-prone, and fewer wrinkles

Taste and directions for use

I find the peach tea flavor well balanced, neither too mild nor too strong.

On first use, I was surprised by this slightly salty taste due to the marine collagen peptides and the added salt. The brand told me that the latter gave the product a unique flavor and made it easier to take. For my part, the added salt is unnecessary because the salty taste is already present.

You can take this supplement with a meal or as a snack, in the morning, afternoon, or evening.

For a proper dissolution, first pour water (hot or cold) and add the powder before mixing.

The scoop allows you to consume 10g of the supplement, which provides 9.53g of collagen peptides — nearly the ideal daily recommended amount (10g) for visible effects.

My advice: pair it with a protein source (meat, fish, egg, dairy, whole grains). Indeed, since collagen peptides are proteins, their absorption will be enhanced.

Another dietary tip to optimize collagen production and absorption: also consider a vitamin C regimen (bell peppers, kiwi, orange, mango, broccoli, guava, papaya).

And I’ll finish with a few ideas for how to use it: add it to hot chocolate, gnocchi or pancake batter, cake batter or a bowl/mug cake, a smoothie, a cocktail, ice cream, homemade candies, yogurt or porridge… 1 to 2 measuring scoops, depending on your taste.

Note: In case of allergies to fish and shellfish, the brand offers only one bovine collagen product, Pure Bovine Collagen (neutral, kiwi-raspberry or chocolate caramel flavors).

Price ★★★

A 28-day course of Twenty DC’s Beautiful Skin Collagen, peach tea flavor (marine collagen + Ovoderm®), costs €52.90, or €1.90 per day.

I chose to compare it to similar products, namely marine collagen powders from French brands.

The Peau Magnifique collagen from Twenty DC is priced higher than its competitors and falls into a high-end category.

This very high price per kilogram can be explained by the use of type I collagen with an ideal molecular weight of 2,000 daltons, and above all by the addition of Ovoderm®.

To lower the price of your cart, there are several options. First, registering for the Newsletter allows you to receive 10% off your first order.

By buying in bulk, you’ll get a 5% discount when purchasing 2 jars and a 10% discount when purchasing 3 jars. The brand recommends a 3-month course.

There is no accumulation of loyalty points but you can refer friends and family. When your referral places an order using your referral link, you both receive 10% off your next order.

Twenty DC ships to mainland France and the French overseas departments and territories (DOM-TOM), to Switzerland, and to certain countries outside the European Union.

Home delivery via Colissimo is free in metropolitan France for orders of €50 or more, which is probably the most attractive delivery option. This amount is already reached by buying a single jar of Peau Magnifique collagen.

Transparency ★★★

The origin of the raw materials is unfortunately not specified on the product packaging. I learned that it is not always the same (sometimes the product is of French origin, sometimes not).

Not knowing the exact origin of the fish is, for me, a lack of transparency.

Twenty DC has marketing authorizations issued by the DGCCRF (Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control), which attest to the proper analysis of the products and certificates confirming the absence of heavy metal traces.

Here is the information I was able to obtain from the brand about the manufacturing of the collagen:

  • The fish skins are collected, pressed and mixed with water.
  • Enzymes are added to the collagen (which is a protein) to break it down into small chains of amino acids called collagen peptides. Its absorption (bioavailability) will then be optimal.
  • Then comes ultrafiltration : this method removes any presence of heavy metals.
  • Laboratory analysis : each batch is subjected to tests to ensure its purity and the safety of the product.

Twenty DC chose marine collagen sourced from the skin of fish raised in aquaculture (in closed environments: basin, river or pond). The environmental impact is lower compared to bovine collagen.

It respects the circular economy: fish that are destined to be discarded are recovered to extract their collagen, which reduces waste and promotes short supply chains.

The fish are nonetheless certified Friend Of The Sea, which is supposed to guarantee fishing that respects marine stocks.

Expertise ★★★☆☆

The Twenty DC blog is written by web writers, including Olivia Royer, a health, nutrition, sports and wellness specialist, who is part of our editorial team.

I noticed that there were already almost a hundred articles online:

  • to support users during their collagen regimen
  • to use the supplements in cooking (recipe ideas)
  • to learn about the benefits of collagen

Maxime Barret, the co-founder, and his team are currently handling responses via chat, by phone (customer service) and email.

According to Twenty DC, the scientific team consists of:

  • of two product managers who work directly with external laboratories for product formulation
  • a quality manager who ensures that each product is properly regulated, analyzed and certified

But I did not receive any further information about the expertise of the scientific team.

Popularity ★★★★

The brand is present on Facebook (more than 400 followers), YouTube, Instagram (more than 2,000 followers) and TikTok but primarily focuses on the last two social networks to increase its visibility.

The site lists all Verified User Reviews, i.e., the reviews left after each purchase, and even included all the reviews from 2023 in a blog post.

Twenty DC has grown its site users by 300% each year since its founding. In April 2023, the brand recorded 46,000 visitors. The brand’s popularity is therefore increasing.

There are currently no reviews on TrustPilot.

On the brand’s site, over 300 verified reviews (rated 5 stars) are collected but not all are visible and the mention “Verified Reviews” does not appear.

What emerges from these comments :

  • smooth, hydrated skin, more radiant, fewer wrinkles
  • more beautiful hair and less hair loss
  • pleasant taste
  • satisfaction with the purchase

I found three recent press articles, which are not sponsored articles, that mention Twenty DC. SeniorActu (April 2023), La Fine Equipe, and Voici (May 2023).

Maxime Barret informed me that he was working on boosting the brand’s growth by conveying a good image of its products, and by prioritizing its development in France then, in the medium term, abroad (EU and non-EU).

Trust ★★★★

Twenty DC is certified “Marque de France”: it delegates the production of all products to a French partner workshop.

It holds the Friend Of The Sea label. But according to this WWF guide to food labels that I usually consult (WWF), this label only partially meets the requirements for environmentally friendly and fair production.

I had the opportunity to observe that customer service is very responsive. The number is free. It can be reached from 10 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. I waited barely 2 minutes with very pleasant music, and it was Maxime Barret who answered my questions.

When I sent the contact form in writing through the site, I received a response in less than 24 hours as promised by the brand (in 4 hours precisely).

But favor the chat on the site if you’re in a hurry: I received an answer in less than 30 minutes.

Regarding CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), the brand emphasizes that its formulations contain more than 90% marine collagen, the latter being part of a circular economy approach.

Moreover, Twenty DC acknowledges reducing bovine collagen production by a factor of 10, which is ten times more polluting than marine collagen.
