Like many higher education degrees, the BTS in Dietetics is dense and demanding. It is essential for anyone wishing to work as a dietitian-nutritionist, either in private practice or as a salaried employee.

Whether in person or 100% online, the program lasts two years, paced by a scientific curriculum ranging from culinary techniques to pathophysiology, including biochemistry.

Distance learning can indeed be appealing. In my view, it offers two main advantages: flexibility in the learning path and lower cost.

However, to ensure your success as a student, it seems crucial to have a serious, motivating, and realistic framework when facing the challenges of this field. It should provide you with all the tools needed for the exam.

To help you choose your online BTS in Dietetics, I compared the 6 private programs currently available based on 4 key criteria. And I evaluated and rated each one.

Schools analyzed: Studi (Academee brand), Skill and You (brands Be Academie, Educatel), L’atelier des Chefs, Etudis (Adonis), E-Diderot and IFSNM.

We evaluate all programs independently. If you click on one of the links provided, we may receive a commission.

Methodology

To compare the institutions offering this online BTS, I identified four main criteria to evaluate and differentiate them.

Each criterion is given a score out of 5, based on the information gathered and on my discussions with each of the schools. The average of the four determines the final selection.

1. Educational and academic quality

The first criterion is to verify the school’s quality certifications and the recognition of the degree awarded, as well as the faculty’s qualifications.

Most schools also estimate an average number of teaching hours for the two years of the BTS in Dietetics, even though the student manages their own study time.

Various learning materials are also made available and assessed based on their relevance and the duration of access to the different resources.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to assess the success rate which seems to me to be an important factor. Most schools do not specify it, or it is self-reported with no way to verify.

Indeed, the education authority does not differentiate between types of students: those from public schools, private schools, distance learning, in-person programs, or independent candidates. The national pass rate for the BTS in Dietetics is on average below 50%.

2. Accessibility and student support

The second criterion compares the availability of tutoring and personalized support for the student. Between internships, a thesis to write, and written exams, support matters.

The ability to interact with instructors, with other students, and how often, is a positive factor for the schools concerned.

Finally, I place importance on administrative support, such as exam registration and internship agreements.

3. Cost and additional services

The costs of distance learning and the financing options vary from one school to another. This obviously factors into the selection criteria.

Several educational options are available, included or paid: coaching, specific subjects, and more. Their relevance contributes to the scoring of this criterion.

I also found it useful to compare the length of access to resources and the possibility of in-person attendance for certain schools.

4. Career prospects and recognition

The BTS in Dietetics includes mandatory internships: 20 weeks in total. In institutional food service or in the hospital sector, some schools can help you find them more easily.

I took into account job placement support. Some schools pay attention to this, and I consider it essential. Although none can provide job placement statistics that would help assess this reality of the profession.

Finally, reading the reviews on student forums as well as the online ratings completes my analysis of the six selected distance learning providers.

Best online BTS in Dietetics programs

BTS Atelier des Chefs

L’atelier des Chefs : 19/20

Pedagogy: ★★★★
Support: ★★★★
Costs: ★★★★
Career prospects: ★★★★

Price: €3,490 – Eligible for CPF funding

The real-world professional environment at L’atelier des Chefs is an asset for learning the dietitian profession. Pedagogy, content, and practice are at the heart of the program. The human connection and the teachers’ accessibility put it at the top of the rankings.

Advantages

  • Professional network
  • Student and alumni network
  • Instructor qualifications
  • Possibility of an in-person internship for the ATA exam
  • Overall success rate across all programs: 97%

Disadvantages

  • Paid thesis coaching
  • Limited track record due to the program’s recent creation

Initially known for its cooking classes, L’atelier des Chefs stands out for the richness of its content and its professional approach.

Qualiopi-certified and validated by experts (Meilleurs Ouvriers de France), it has recently diversified by offering online diploma-granting programs.

A refresher course is included for students who need it. The modules follow the national framework, ensuring good preparation for the exams.

The online platform offers content available for up to 3 years:

  • Written lessons
  • live classes or available as replays
  • videos and podcasts available for free.

A two-day, in-person course in the Paris region to prepare for the ATA exam (Food Technology Activities) is available.

The educational advisor mentions high-quality instructors, dietitians, and chefs, names them, and shares their profiles on social media. A human-centered approach seems to be at the heart of the process by explaining the istudent-teacher interactions, the corrections, and the opportunities for Q&A.

There is personalized support with a subject-matter expert for technical questions, and a coach for motivation and other questions.

One downside in my opinion: thesis coaching is a paid service, as with many schools. However, the all-inclusive price of the program remains around the average and is not the highest on the market.

With a strong professional network, L’atelier des Chefs offers good prospects for both internships and post-graduation employment.

A “recruitment forum” is also available to students. Business creation coaching is also offered, for an additional fee, and may be suitable depending on your project.

Skill and You

Skill and You : 16/20

Pedagogy: ★★★★
Support: ★★★★
Costs: ★★★★
Career prospects: ★★★★

Price: €3,470 – Eligible for CPF funding

In summary, the Skill and You platform offers quality training. The ability to keep exam scores above average for 5 years is explained and reflects honesty about the level of difficulty of this BTS. Its competitive price payable in 36 monthly installments makes it accessible to a wider audience.

Advantages

  • Competitive pricing
  • Digital tools
  • Access to the platform for 48 months
  • Instructors chosen for their qualifications and professional backgrounds
  • Commitment to providing personalized support: corrections, coaching…

Disadvantages

  • Overall success rate of 60% (all programs combined, which may seem relatively low compared to other similar platforms)
  • Mobile app needs improvement according to some student reviews
  • Independence in finding internships often criticized in student reviews

Skill and You is one of the European leaders in distance learning, bringing together several specialized schools, including Be Académie and Educatel. The three brands offer the same online BTS in Dietetics.

The school highlights its flexibility and modern digital tools: an intuitive platform, interactive virtual classes, a mobile app, and well-structured digital learning materials.

Cooking videos are also available, along with a 24/7 student portal to facilitate interaction.

The school mentions a partnership with Hellowork to make it easier to search for jobs and internships.

Some educational options such as a refresher course, life coaching, and the TOEIC are available (for a fee).

The total cost of the distance-learning BTS in Dietetics is among the lowest in the field, and a payment plan of up to 36 months can make it more accessible.

E-Diderot

E-Diderot : 15/20

Pedagogy: ★★★★
Support: ★★★
Costs: ★★★★
Career prospects: ★★★

Price: €2,990 – €6,700 – CPF-eligible

E-Diderot justifies its rather high price by its expertise, the breadth of its materials and content and its personalized support. Despite several criticisms from former students and former teachers pointing out the institution’s sometimes overly commercial approach, access to the campuses is a real “plus” and its place in the top 3.

Advantages

  • Many years of experience teaching this BTS program
  • Open house days
  • Partner network thanks to the Diderot Education Group
  • Access for remote students to co-working spaces on the campuses
  • Live cooking classes to prepare for the ATA

Disadvantages

  • High cost
  • Platform accessible for only 2 years (+ catch-up period), after that you have to pay again
  • Negative feedback from students and teachers about the school’s structural framework

E-Diderot belongs to the Diderot Education group, active in higher education for more than twenty years and, from the outset, in dietetics and human nutrition.

The school has managed to evolve with new technologies, offering interactive distance-learning courses certified by Qualiopi. Modern digital tools like an app and an intuitive platform are among its selling points.

Some flexible plans from “Initial” to “Comprehensive” are offered to meet students’ needs and budgets.

However, the most comprehensive plans seem the most compelling from an educational standpoint and therefore the most expensive. These are the “Enhanced” and “Comprehensive” plans.

They of course include the e-learning platform, but also individual academic coaching, virtual classes, several mock exams, a thesis review—everything essential to be ready to take the exam.

I really like the active learning highlighted: delivering the lessons before class time, making them accessible at all times, before and after the exercises.

As well as the ability to physically access the nearest campuses. For students who feel lonely or need to work outside the home, it’s a significant advantage.

E-Diderot also offers many very appealing additional options, again for a fee, such as a training program led by a sports professional for nutritional guidance.

Etudis

Etudis (Adonis) : 14/20

Pedagogy: ★★★★
Support: ★★★
Costs: ★★★★
Job prospects: ★★★

Price: €1,450 – €6,600 – CPF-eligible

The Adonis group has many years of experience in education, both in person and at a distance. However, their offering doesn’t stand out much from others and remains unclear about the support and the culinary internship.

Advantages

  • Many years of experience teaching this BTS program
  • Open house days
  • Student ID card
  • Personalized feedback
  • In-person cooking internship possible (Easter period)

Disadvantages

  • High cost
  • Platform accessible only for 2 years, then you have to pay again
  • No mobile app
  • Unclear details about the in-person internship and the number of mock exams
  • Some testimonials indicate communication problems and insufficient follow-up

Recognized for its expertise in dietetics and paramedical fields, Etudis, part of the ADONIS group specializing in training related to health and nutrition, has been offering a distance-learning option for about ten years.

All instructors are professionals in the subjects they teach and a space is dedicated to student-teacher interactions. Phone appointments are available depending on the plan chosen.

Indeed, four different plans provide access to personalized support, live classes, and even oral exam simulations.

Here again, the cost is quite high once certain options are chosen that are nevertheless essential to the successful completion of this distance-learning program.

Another point, a leveling course is said to be mandatory for students without a science background (additional cost).

The courses are structured using paper and digital materials. Regular assignments are required to assess knowledge, and personalized feedback is provided.

Adonis mentions an in-person cooking class option in certain cities, provided there are enough enrolled students (no further details).

An expanded professional network for internships highlights potential opportunities. Going forward, two programs after the BTS in Dietetics are offered there, which may interest future graduates.

Academee

Academee (Studi) : 14/20

Pedagogy: ★★★★
Support: ★★★★
Costs: ★★★
Career prospects: ★★★

Price: €3,890 – CPF eligible

The school highlights its e-learning expertise and career coaching to support each project. The teaching approach is less convincing, with courses accessible only step by step, a lack of clarity about the number of practice exams available and whether the degree can be completed in 1 year.

Advantages

  • Career coaching
  • Teacher qualifications
  • Modern teaching tools (app, e-learning partnership)
  • Help with writing the thesis advertised as included
  • Promise of interactions with teachers and quick answers to your questions

Disadvantages

  • Platform available for only 2 years
  • Courses not immediately available but unlocked over the months
  • Option to complete the BTS in 1 year

In 1999, Studi and the M6 group created a 100% online school called Academee. This coincides with the early days of the internet. In 2021, Studi and Academee began offering training for future healthcare professionals.

E-learning and the many digital partnerships (such as Galileo Global Education) demonstrate a genuine desire to offer innovative and engaging tools for learning.

The platform, available for 2 years, is also accessible via an app: more than 4,000 live courses delivered by dietitians, doctors, and specialist professors, replays, courses downloadable as PDFs…

Academee also provides access to chats between students and encourages student-teacher exchanges. They promise answers to questions within 24 hours.

I found little information on the site regarding help with writing the thesis and its necessity for the exam. But I got information by phone: support with a dedicated professor would be included.

One piece of information that would be useful to know is missing, in my opinion: the number of practice exams included in the program, which I think is useful to know.

Finally, the school emphasizes the career coaching included in the program. It consists of 40 hours of mentoring to help with internship searches, support entry into the workforce, and obtain a “Ready for Work” certificate.

Academee therefore shows a certain professional realism, without providing a genuine professional network either. However, I found the repeated suggestion of completing this BTS in 1 year, both on the website and over the phone, unrealistic.

IFSNM

IFSNM : 10/20

Pedagogy : ★★★
Support : ★★
Costs : ★★★
Career prospects : ★★

Price: €4,850 – Eligible for CPF funding

This training institute is specialized exclusively in the field of nutrition. For this first year, there is still limited clarity regarding the actual number of mock exams, the real personalized support the student might receive, and the diploma to be completed in one year. The price is fairly high.

Advantages

  • Commitment to personalized support
  • Interactive and fun teaching
  • Approach to the profession with a focus on micronutrition, phytotherapy…

Disadvantages

  • High cost
  • Limited track record (first year of operation)
  • Option to complete the BTS in 1 year
  • Only 1 mock exam
  • Lack of detail about individualized tutoring sessions

The Higher Institute of Nutrition and Micronutrition (IFSNM) offers the BTS in Dietetics via distance learning for the first year. This 100% online program was created by healthcare professionals

The teaching team also includes scientists: pharmacists and dietitians.

The institute aims to provide extensive academic support. For now, tutoring is estimated at an average of 10 sessions per year.

IFSNM highlights an interactive pedagogy with quizzes, virtual classes, and hands-on exercises as part of continuous assessment, while offering long-term access to resources after the training.

However, over the phone, this information is contradicted since I am told there is only 24 months of access. Only one practice exam is planned for now.

The BTS can also be completed in 1 year on an intensive basis. Over the phone, I bring up a possible need for a refresher for non-scientists; the response, in my view, is rather unrealistic: “it’s not necessary.”

Although the institute values personalized support, assistance with the search for internships and post-graduation professional life does not appear among the priorities at the moment.

I find the approach to the profession interesting, with a focus on nutrition and micronutrition. Qualified dietitians can also choose a specialized program.

My tips for choosing the right online BTS in Dietetics

It isn’t easy to choose the right program. The stakes are high because preparing for the Brevet de Technicien Supérieur Diététique remotely can be more difficult than in person.

A commercial imperative certainly drives these private schools, but the same is true for in-person programs. The people you speak with may be more or less persuasive, without proving the rigor of the material provided afterward.

I therefore recommend comparing pricing as well as financing options based on your situation. Also pay attention to the flexibility and practical tools you need.

Another tip: don’t hesitate to contact former students to learn their opinions and experience. To do this, simply do a keyword search on LinkedIn.

Self-discipline, organizational ability, your scientific skills, and your motivation are the key strengths that will make the biggest difference.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much does a distance-learning BTS in Dietetics cost?

The cost of a distance-learning BTS in Dietetics ranges from €2,100 to €7,000 per year, depending on the institution and the educational options chosen. Many schools offer payment plans, with the possibility of paying in several no-fee installments, spread over monthly payments. In addition, it is possible to receive financial aid, notably through the CPF (Compte Personnel de Formation), FranceTravail, or regional aid, to reduce the cost or obtain full coverage of the program.

Can you complete a distance-learning BTS in Dietetics in 1 year?

Some schools do indeed offer the BTS in Dietetics as a distance-learning program completed in one year. This option means fitting the entire two-year curriculum, writing the thesis, and completing the 20 mandatory weeks of internship into a single year. The success rate for this one-year BTS is unknown and suggests a very intensive pace that may not suit everyone.

Are there internships during an online BTS in Dietetics program?

The BTS in Dietetics includes a total of 20 weeks of internships across the two years of the program. These internships are mandatory, whether the coursework is done in person or online.

Does CNED offer a distance-learning BTS in Dietetics?

Among distance-learning options, CNED is a long-standing national public provider. It offers the BTS in Dietetics as well as a preparatory BTS Dietetics course for people without a science background. The standard price (without options) is 2,190 euros for an estimated 1,500 hours.

What is the pass rate for distance-learning BTS in Dietetics programs?

Schools offering the BTS in Dietetics via distance learning generally do not publish a specific pass rate, instead referring to the national pass rate reported by the regional education authorities. On average, the pass rate for the BTS in Dietetics is 40% to 50%. This figure includes all candidates, whether they completed their training in person or online.
